This initial stage of this project consisted of determining which CMS to transition to as the current ZenCart CMS become too outdated to deal with the volume of data & users required. The main alternatives where identified as WordPress (With WooCommerce), Prestashop, Shopify, Magento and OpenCart. Along with the direction of the development team, the customer decided to move forward utilizing the Prestashop platform. As it was optimized for big e-commerce sites and offers a vast array of plug-in modules to easily extend the sites functionality and increase the end user experience.
Product Listing
The customer wanted to clean up the homepage layout so that the users are able to quickly view relevant product information. This involved customizing the product listing card to only display: a product image, sale price, customer rating and an add to wishlist button. This cleans up the product listing page and removes the short product description which can seem too crowded to the end-user. By narrowing the product listing card we are also able to fit more products while not taking up much more page real estate. The homepage is broken into two main sections: best sellers & new products. In addition I incorporated a scrolling image carousel on the homepage, this allows the client to promot certain brands and featured products.
Product Page
includes shipping estimate, wishlist, alerts users if not all options are selected, product fitment,reviews..etc
Advanced Filters/Sort Order
By harnessing the power of Prestashop each product listing page now includes the option to sort by price, product name & others..etc. Additionally I developed a custom bike model filter, that would allow users to find products specific to their year/make/model. Not only can users find parts specific to their bike easily but users can also filter by brand and choose to include universal parts or fluids within their search criteria. By launching this specific filter it eliminates a large volumn of emails where customers are inquring about specific part fitment (More Information).
Customer Wishlist
Throughout the site logged-in users have the ability to add a product of interest to their wish list. Users are able to create multiple lists and from within their account dashboard are able to view, edit & delete their lists. Users have the ability to add all items from a list to cart.
Users are able to share their list by utilizing the public link that is displayed in their account dashboard. This public link will display the users name and all the products within the specified list.
Advanced Customer Account Dashboard
The customers ‘My Account’ dashboard gives users access to many features including:
- Edit customer profile information
- Edit/add addresses
- View order history
- View product reviews
- Easily re-order past products
- Bulk order multiple items
- Manage user wishlists

The client wanted to emphasize a uniform design while still retaining the ability to have a fully customizable website layout. Upon further consultation it was clear the the basic SquareSpace layout was not sufficient for what the client wanted. We transfered the domain to a hosted WordPress server.
Enchanced Customization
By electing to use a WordPress site, we could achieve the level of customization that the client envisioned. I created a customized theme utilizing the colours and branding images provided by the graphic designer. As per the client’s requirements, the top section of the website consists of a image carousel where the client can showcase some of his biggest projects. Below is the ‘Featured Products’ which is set by the client to promote specific inventory items.
Upgraded Product Listing
The product listing element was updated so that it displays the price and displays an ‘Add to Cart’ or ‘Select Options’ button’. Besides being very easy to determine pricing, the user also has a ‘Quick View’ button that opens up a modal which displays the most important product information.
WooCommerce Product Page
The product page was designed to have a more functional and intuitive layout. The product images automatically zoom in when hovering with the mouse, allowing users to view an item in great detail. Below the description we show users other products they might be interested in; this helps boost sales and product awareness. The product page follows a similar grid layout from the original site but is now packed full of features to enhance the overall user experience.

Modifying the customer supplied base theme, I cleaned up the UI/UX design so it would be easier for users to navigate both on a desktop and mobile device. Further customization of the theme was required to match the branding package as detailed by the client. Custom headers and footers were specifically implemented according to the clients request.
Booking System
The booking system was implemented and modified to better fit within the context of the business. A custom plugin was developed to automatically email the administrators with a class attendance list for each corresponding course.
Customizable Landing Page
The client desired to have a simple/clean landing page similar to treelink for their instagram and other social media platforms. The goal of this page is to allow users to have a quick shortcut to specific courses and other social media links such as telegram/facebook groups. This page had to be customizable by the administrator to promote different courses/workshops throughout the year.
Generate Class Attendance List
The client wanted to have a system that would automatically generate a class attendance list and email it to both the administrators and instructors. Each course/workshop has its own instructor and the system must have the ability to send the specified class attendance to the appropriate email address. The email would be sent with a generated PDF file. This attendance list PDF file is fully customizable and is populated directly from the database.
